The Ericofon is a one-piece plastic telephone created by the Ericsson Company of Sweden and companies in the United States. North Electric in Galion, Ohio, manufactured the Ericofon for the North American independent market.

I love the wider Bakelite body with slanted sides in that great art deco style, as well as the vents in the back. The white dial looks clean and beautiful and still has crisp clear numbers. 2021-03-16 · This is a vintage ERICOFON North Electric Company. The phone has some discoloration and I don't know if it works or not. It could use further cleaning. The model 700 had a squarer design than earlier models. North Electric in Galion, Ohio, manufactured the Ericofon for the North American independent market. The Bell System was the system of companies, led by the Bell Telephone Company and later by AT&T, which provided telephone services to much of the United States and Canada from 1877 to 1984, at various times as a monopoly. North Electric ceased production of the Ericofon for North America in 1972. Ericsson introduced a push-button version of the Ericofon, the model 700, for the company’s 100th anniversary in 1976.

This model was often seen and used in Josey Packard's home. The phone is made of Bakelite and shined up beautifully. North Electric was founded in Cleveland by George Drumheller and Charles North, both lineman for the Cleveland Telephone Company (later Ohio Bell). Starting with telephone and switchboard repair, they built North into a company that successfuly manufactured phones and switching systems for almost 100 years, before selling out to Ericsson and then to ITT.
